This practical webinar will show how pupils can be introduced to the abstract concept of religion which can then be systematically revisited wherever it occurs in content, ensuring that pupils accumulate powerful knowledge around it for retrieval, as they progress through medium term plans. Reference will be made to the possible study of the significant individuals at KS1 strongly motivated by their faith such as slave trade abolitionist Olaudah Equiano and the Dalai Lama. An overview will be given of the development of religions and interactions between them from the Stone Age onwards, taking in ancient civilisations, Ancient Greece, the Romans, Anglo-Saxons and Vikings and including the curricular options of Islamic Civilisations, the Maya and Benin.
